Man, talk about a sleeper hit for me. Never gave it much credit while it was in the theatres, so I never bothered to see it til tonight when I got it from Redbox. Damn, I was seriously impressed. Solid movie from start to finish!

    Anyone else seen it?

I saw it the other week and was really impressed. Great performances and great directing by Ben Affleck (if I'm not mistaken). Great flick!

My roommate gave me the DVD for Christmas. Good movie, but the favorable comparisons to Heat are completely undeserved. That film had much more depth and cohesiveness.

I had a chance to watch this on the plane, but I decided to forgo it for the Expendables. I'll have to watch it though, as I do enjoy Ben Affleck.

The Expendables is probably a better airplane movie (max stimulation per second to alleviate the boredom). Having been on a couple 13-hour flights, I appreciate that mindless action movies do have a place there.

One thing that bothered me about The Town was how close it was stylistically and thematically to Gone Baby Gone, the first film Affleck directed. I know he's pulling from his own life experiences, but I would have liked for him to have been more adventurous -- there are plenty other places to set a film other than Boston, and there are plenty of criminals in the world without a working-class background.
