Scroll down for TL;DR. ;D
Super Meat Boy is a 2D platformer based a very popular Newgrounds Flash game. You play a meat boy who must rescue his bandage girlfriend from the evil Dr. Fetus. (Who wears a tux.)
The game revolves around guiding your meat boy through a level, using quick reflexes to avoid obstacles and get a good time. Most of the fun in this game comes from tackling levels, watching your replays (When you finally finish a level, you can watch your replay showcasing every time you die, and believe me, you will die. A LOT.), and watching the funny exchange between meat and fetus. As I said just prior, you will die. A lot. The difficulty curve is pretty intense, but in a good challenging way. I do want to tear my hair out on some levels, but then when I beat them I'm just ecstatic.
The art style is nice and simple, but also varies. For example, you can find hidden warp zones which are levels with a different design. I've been through four so far, and I got 2 SNES style, one Gameboy style, and one Bit.Trip style. (Another Indie game.) The retro throwback styled warp zones are an awesome edition, and made me squee inside. (That is, until I failed miseably.) The variety is great between worlds as well. I've only been to two, but the difference between the forest sawmills and the hospital syringe dumps is pretty sweet.
You can also collect hidden bandages or complete certain warp zones to unlock characters, all from different games. I won't reveal any but one, suffice to say, I can play as a feckin' headcrab from Half-Life. Awesome! The music is also something to be applauded, as it just simply fits. The sound is satisfying, as you can hear everytime your meat boy smacks against the wall and everytime he pops against a saw. It's sickening and funny all at once.
All in all, for fifteen dollars, you get a great, challenging platform with a LOT of content, good variety, interesting characters, dark humor out the rear, great music and sound, and a unique and interesting art style. It's a steal, it really is.
TL;DR
All in all, pick up Super Meat Boy if you love platforming, and even if you don't, give him a whirl.
I'm planning on recording some of my replays with the most interesting tries/deaths and putting them up on Youtube. Hopefully that'll be worth a few laughs.
