And no, I don't want to hear about how much you hate the CoD series and how Infinity Ward is just out to whore you for all the money you have by putting out a new CoD every year...I KNOW! I get it.

Call of Duty Black Ops
Has anyone picked this up for the PC? I played Modern Warfare but skipped the other ones after it. I'm thinking about picking this up for Christmas but wanted to know if anyone else is playing, what you have experienced, etc.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
i love CoD ... only CoD i.e CoD1/UO ..
saying that tho, i'll prolly wait till its down to around the cheap stage, granted its a good game but i was never interested in the CoD when they switch to the modern age.
note: i dont *hate* cod, i just have no urge to go and buy it

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
I am a MAJOR fan of the CoD single player campaigns due to the fact that the stories are so well written.
However, for multi-player, I've sort of stopped playing them seriously after CoD4 / Modern Warfare / Whatever the fuck you wanna call it :p

THIS!
The CoD multiplayer has gone to friggen hell starting with
Modern Warfare. I don't and won't have MW2 nor Black Ops. I have played and actually loved the Single player mission in Black Ops.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
CoD Black Ops won character of the year. Repeat that sentence back to yourself without laughing.
I heard it was as good as MW2, and MW2 is full of 13 year-olds just like MW, so if you like it go for it! I just think you can do so much better Boba. ;D

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
I am a huge fan of the CoD series but I restrained myself on this one. After seeing what Treyarch had produced with World at War and being able to play some of this one on my friends 360, it was pretty clear to me that this game is NOT worth $60. Not many games are.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
If you're getting it as a gift from someone else go for it, I played the single player campaign it was good, not as good as MW1 or 2's but still a solid storyline. The multiplayer isn't all it's cracked up to be, I don't think the game is worth 60$ so don't buy it yourself unless you find it cheaper somewhere.
Then again I'm with a lot of people here I wasn't much interested in the multiplayer aspects of CoD since 1 and 2 + expansions really.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
Got the game for review, gave it away not long after.
To be frank, their is nothing new with the game to warrant a $60 price tag if you already own MW1 or Bad Company 2.
Bad Company 2 has a better single player IMO but both games have the most lack luster "evil russians wish to kill us all" story I've played in awhile.
Black Ops does have a few nice perks though, if you prestiege you get all your stuff taken away, so experienced players go back to basics quiet often.
Dedicated Servers run smooth and keep everything free flowing.
Constant developer support of multiplayer and bug fixing.
Also, Infinity Ward isn't out for money, as they're dead. This game is by the World @ War makers.
Though this time they were actually given a budget and resources to make a proper game.
If I had to give suggestions to activision on how to make this a good game it'd probably follow:
1.) Make a choice, are you deathmatch or are you team play.
- They have to many split game types that divide the player base and are not as fleshed out as they could be.
2.) Learn to use the color wheel.
- Their is more than one shade of green.
3.) Quit wasting money on single player.
- CoD's a multiplayer game. It started out as one, and always will be one.
All in all, it's not a bad game. Though it's not anything to write home about. Mediocre at worst, decent at best.
Wait for a $30-$35 sale IMO. That'll be it's optimum value range there.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. CoD has had some great SP gameplay, and there's still evidence to suggest that SP outnumber MP players by a large, deep, wide, huge margin. Please don't sacrifice either for either, please.Tator Tot wrote:3.) Quit wasting money on single player.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
CoD's single player game-play hasn't really been anything since Big Red One. Even then, their are much better stories told in terms of single player & third player shooters.
With each new game, the SP feels more tacked on than before.
Though W@W's russian campaign was something very new and excitting for the most part. It wasn't really fleshed out well. Nor did the put alot of effort into expanding it.
Right now, with the limited budget that they're working on for CoD games, it'd be better for them to just focus on the multiplayer.
Though if they want to make a great single player campaign they should take the valve route and expand it as your MP life grows.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
Say what you will about CoD, about it's gunplay or story, but I'd much rather run along with AI squadmates and feel like I'm a soldier than play the Multiplayer and run around with a bunch of selfish teenagers who only think about ganks and themselves. :S That's why I'm playing through World at War again, and will probably play through Brothers in Arms; I love being one part of that squad.
If they really do work with a "limited budget" then I call their strategy retarded, as the CoD franchise has pulled in a LOT of money.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
Well because of the way the Studio v Publisher form works, just because you pull in big $$, it doesn't mean you get most of it.
Right now, it depends. EA Partners (like the Crysis Studios and such) get something like 70% of the profit of a game.
On the other hand, Activision does it on a much smaller basis. Trey only gets around 32% last I recall.
And CoD is/was/has been much more successful than Crysis has.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
Thanks for the input. I am going to get it as a gift so no sweat off my back. I'll play it and see if I like it and if not I'll just go back to Modern Warfare.
I didn't have too many problems with young kids playing or being annoying on the PC. Most of that I find is on xbox live which is one of the reasons I enjoy playing online with my PC.
And for the record...I loved Call of Duty 2 single player. It was a lot of fun and very intense to be running around in Russia (if I remember correctly) during the war.

The Russian section of the first Call of Duty's single player campaign has to be my personal favourite.

Re: Call of Duty Black Ops
Unless you have a super gaming machine, do not buy Black Ops on PC. It has serious framerate and system-hogging issues that they have yet to resolve. Coming from being able to play MW2 on full settings, to not even being able to play Black Ops on the lowest settings... Huge waste of $60 with no fix in the future.

It is worse if you buy Metro 2033. Man that game is the crysis of 2010.

I agree with Ephie here, the best singeplayer games in terms of War games available is definitely the Brothers In arms games, best stories that are true to life. And the battlefield games with friends are much better for MP than any other that are out.
Also Metro 2033 was quite a good story too, just some bits were horrid, like sneaking, and the price, but i still enjoyed it
