    Lyrics You Relate To

Post by Guest on Tue Nov 30, 2010 4:04 pm

We all have songs that affect us significantly more than others, that we listen to when we're sad or happy or angry with varying reasons.

Oh the welts of your scorn, my love
    Give me more
Send whips of opinion down my back
    Give me more
Well it's you I've waited my life to see
It's you I've searched so hard for....

One other year has left my life
    One year bygone so soon
These were the days I sacrificed
These days were lived for you

Some came with winter in white
    Some days were blown away
Some came with sultry summer nights
    Some with October rain

Oh, how I long for utter silence
But who am I to know
When rain will turn to snow?
    If life brings another day

    Epilogue - Kamelot

Christmas is almost here, again. I don't like it at all for more than one reason.
One of which is that I hate the idea of going through another year. Utter silence sounds like death and, when the year ends and all is done, I get very sad that another year has gone by without me doing anything of consequence and just staying around for the sake of it.

And I just realised how personal this thread is Uhh

Although my absolute favorite song is Pushit by Tool, the lyrics for H. get me every flippin' time.

And as the snake is drowned and
As I look in his eyes,
    My fear begins to fade
    Recalling all of those times.
    I could have cried then.
    I should have cried then.

And as the walls come down and
As I look in your eyes
    My fear begins to fade
    Recalling all of the times
    I have died
    and will die.
    It's all right.
    I don't mind.

I am too connected to you to
    Slip away, to fade away.
Days away I still feel you
    Touching me, changing me,
    And considerately killing me.

The way I relate to it is a little less abstract (than it was probably intended) and mostly feeds on the way people can affect you. People I only knew when I was young still have an effect on me now, and it's sobering to think that you yourself could be affecting another. It helps me to strive to be better in ways, that thought does. I still sing the last few parts of H. to myself now, years after I first heard it when I was little. Crazy.

I knew it! I knew you didn't want me over for Christmas. T.T

I won't bow to something that I've never seen.
I can't believe in something that doesn't believe in me!
I'm not Blood of Your Blood!
I'm no son of your God!!
I've no faith in your fate!!
    ..STILL I FIND SALVATION!!

    She fuckin' better. Grr

    'Cause I can climb mountains
I can spit further than you can hurl
And I can swallow failure just to learn
And I can build bridges from what you burn
And you can fake smiles that make you feel
When it's time to close the deal
And I'm easy now, it's easy now
    And buy a new disease
When it pays to sell the cure
And I'm easy now, it's easy now

'Cause I can run, I can hide
I can take a world of pain in a stride
And I don't need fairy tales to pretend
And I don't need heroes to depend
And I can heal, I can regenerate
I can give birth and I can meditate
And I can hate, I can love, I can fuck
I can see the view below from
The smiles that you make you feel
When it's time to break the deal
And I'm easy now, it's easy now
    And buy a new disease
When it pays to find the cure

    And with arms around it
    I'll take the summit
    With arms around it
    I'm home

Hell is for Heroes - I Can Climb Mountains

I've listened to this song periodically since the first time I was exposed to HifH (about 5 years ago). I feel that most of these lyrics describe the way I strive to be (though I still have some ways to go) and it reminds me that I can deal with whatever life throws at me.

    (See the cemetery sky
    Carmine red and deep
    Watch the oceans rising high
    It's the human stain)

    Talk about the growing hunger
    Ask why with deep concern
    Don't you think
The human race is ceaselessly vain

But it hurts to be alive, my friend
In this silent tide we're driftwood passing by
Don't you wish you were a child again
    Just for a minute
    Just for a minute more

Hear the ticking of a clock
    The sound of life itself
No one really wants to die
    To save the world

Tell me that you're torn asunder
From how we fail to learn

    And tell me
    As the earth goes under
    Where's your anger now

So it hurts to be alive, my friend
In this masquerade where all one day must die
Don't you wish you were unborn again
    Just for a minute
    Just for a minute more

    Tic toc
The ticking that could tear asunder
The beating from a heart of stone
The lust of your divine prosperity

'Cause it costs to be alive, my friend
And this life that someone merely gave to you
    That's the price you pay
    Minute by minute
You beg for a minute more

One of my favorite albums is "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" by Brand New. It is a themed album of sorts about struggling back and forth between the good and the bad inside us, the tug and the pull of fear and faith you could say.

One song in particular is called "Jesus Christ" and to me it is kind of a song about a crisis and having some amount of fear, doubt, or even wondering about afterlife, this life, and everything else. I know the title makes it seem religious but I'm not sure that it is religion specific under the surface. It's a pretty song.

Jesus Christ, that's a pretty face
The kind you'd find on someone that could save
If they don't put me away
    It'll be a miracle

Do you believe you're missing out?
That everything good is happening somewhere else
    With nobody in your bed
The night is hard to get through

And I will die all alone
And when I arrive I won't know anyone

    Jesus Christ, I'm alone again
So what did you do those three days you were dead?
Because this problem is going to last
    More than the weekend

Jesus Christ, I'm not scared to die
But I'm a little bit scared of what comes after
Do I get the gold chariot
Or do I float through the ceiling

Or do I divide and pull apart
Because my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark
This ship went down in sight of land
And at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands?

I know you're coming in the night like a thief
But I've had some time, O Lord, to hone my lying technique
I know you think that I'm someone you can trust
But I'm scared I'll get scared and I swear I'll try to nail you back up
So do you think that we could work out a sign
So I'll know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try
I know you're coming for the people like me
But we all got wood and nails
And we turn out hate in factories
We all got wood and nails
And we turn out hate in factories
We all got wood and nails
And we sleep inside of this machine
