    Normal Phones Empty Normal Phones

Post by Guest Thu Dec 02, 2010 9:57 am

So I read through Koblentz's topic but couldn't really make heads or tails of it. I am not good at doing anything to do with tech so all that talk about ROMs and such is a bit of a brainmelt for me.

My old phone was good until one by one the buttons stopped working. Now I'm using an ancient one that looks like this but is actually the Sony Ericsson T25Oi.

It's really bad and I have a deal with Swisscom that means I can trade my old one in. But I'm not sure what to get.

I don't want a touchscreen (but I know that that's unlikely for good quality) and I don't require an internet connection. I just want something with the basic apps that a phone has, works and is long-lasting.

    HALP.

Well, smart phones are pretty much going to be the "normal" phones. They will push out the old phones because Carriers will no longer be able to "push" services on them.

That said, if you can get a real good data plan (I HAVE to have unlimited) I would urge you to try a smart phone. I too was reluctant to use them because I didn't want to make using a phone, a chore. Well, since I got my android phone, I've been having a blast. You don't HAVE to ROM them, it's just the droid phones offer that luxury so you can make the phone the way you want it.

    Take a look at this
    Phone.

It has a QWERTY keypad AND a touch screen.

Also, for the basic apps, what apps are a must for you?

That's a beaty, man. I'll have a look at the Swisscom store for it.

Basic means really basic. A calendar, task maker, phonebook, calculator, alarm clock.

    I'm serious, I mean BASIC.
My phone is for calls. 'tis all.

Cool! Give it a few days, I think you'll like it. I didn't want a smart phone for the LONGEST because I didn't want a phone that does more than talking. Now, my smart phone is an extension of what I do on a day-to-day basis.

I was like that as well. But when I got my HTC Incredible, my life changed dramatically.

I may not be a big phone person but I looked up the HTC Desire Z today to convince my sister she probably wouldn't need a new mp3 player and I drooled.

If only I had a good reason to get it. Dead

You have a reason, because new phones are always fun to have.

My network provider periodically upgrades my phone as a gesture of goodwill, probably because I keep swearing to murder their sales reps when my phones get dropped off tall things or soaked or shot and generally die in the course of my day to day insanity. Recently I received an htc desire hd thingy. I SUCK at technology, but find it easy to use and infinitely useful. Its my music on my morning commute, my work usb key and diary, my skiving on the internet, my news, the financial tools I need to hand to do my job with a little more ease, books and or films for my trips home. a good camera which allows date time and location stamps (yay easy court evidence) the damnable thing covers all the bases. I can even call people on it.
However, I used to have a sonim 'toughened' phone, available on amazon not needing anything but your current SIM card, bombproof, very basic but guaranteed to work even if you drop one in the loo.

Worth the expense, I had an older version which I passed on to a friend when I got the htc. As far as I know it lives on.

If I were to buy a smartphone, it would definitely have to have tons of space for music, so I could kill two birds with one stone.

Jesus, Ingo, that looks like a freakin army walkie-talkie.

The best thing to do smartphone wise if you want to kill two birds with one stone is to wait for the next smartphone to come out that supports Mini SDXC cards because those come in 64GB form already.

Right now Mini SDHC is limited to 32GB; though for some that's enough.

Aye! It just makes things easier to be "plugged-in" no matter where you are.

Yes, I have visited and posted on this site while on the toilet.
